Save £30 on the Switch Lite and get six months of Spotify free
If you’ve had your eye on a Switch Lite for a while, this is the cheapest we’ve seen it yet. Not only that, but because it’s from Currys and still (alas) over £50, it comes with a code for six months’ worth of Spotify for new members. The handheld is available in blue, silver or yellow for £169 – a saving of £30 on its RRP . My pick is the blue, which is quite turquoise like in tone, but whatever works for you. A better question to ask is whether the Switch Lite is for you or not? For me, I’d rather spend a bit (well, a lot) more and buy a full-size Switch. My reasoning for that is that although it’s worse looking and quite a bit less practical on the move, the ability to plug it in to a TV and remove the Joy-Con controllers is worth the extra cost and mobility. There are certain games which aren’t playable without buying more non-attachable Joy-Cons, for example, and not being able to output to a big screen severely hampers its mileage as a party game machine. That said, there are people who just want to play Zelda, Mario et al on the go, and for them the Switch Lite is a fantastic little handheld which beats the stuffing out of any other mobile games machine. As Nathan wrote in his review: “If you are (unfortunately) like me and only ever use the Switch while you’re out and about, then the Switch Lite represents the very best handheld console that Nintendo has ever brought to market. The new design is far better suited for on-the-go gaming sessions, it’s equally as powerful and the slightly improved battery life over the original version is also a big plus.” Considering the best price we can see on the regular Switch at the moment is £299 with a free game , you might well decide that you can live with the disadvantages of the Switch Lite and embrace it’s lovely form factor instead.
