Acer and Nvidia reveal Tegra K1 full HD Chromebook 13
Acer has announced the Acer Chromebook 13, the first laptop of its kind to run an Nvidia Tegra K1 mobile processor. The new high-powered Chromebook is still promising 13 hours battery life and a full HD display.
Two new models will launch, one with a full HD 1920 by 1080 display and another with a 1366 by 768 display. Both models will be powered by the Tegra K1 which has an extra battery-saving core alongside the standard quad-core ARM Cortex A15 processor. The processor runs at 2.1Ghz
The lower-resolution model will have a battery life of around 11.5 hours, Acer said. Both will have anti-glare displays for use while out and about and in direct sunlight. Acer said that the new Chromebook 13 was 1.7cm thin and weighs 1.5kg. There are also two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port and a webcam for 720p HD video and built-in stereo speakers and a microphone.
The company has been a big supporter of Google's Chromebook line, with the Acer C720 and Acer C7 both launching in the past year.
Four configurations will be available for the Acer Chromebook 13. The CB5-311-T9B0 has a 1920 by 1080 full HD display, 2GB of memory and a 16GB SSD. The CB5-311-T1UU also has a full HD display but comes with 4GB of memory and a 32GB SSD. The CB5-311-T7NN has a lower-res 1366 by 768 display, 2GB of memory and a 16GB SSD.
The Acer Chromebook 13 CB5-311- T9B0 will launch in the UK in August, with prices starting at €279. It will have 2GB of memory and a 16GB SSD for storing local files and apps. As with all Chromebooks the majority of the grunt-work will be done online through Google's array of cloud services.
