Adobe Creative Cloud mobile apps head to Android
Adobe has revealed the 2015 update to Creative Cloud, and along with a range of tweaks and new features for its desktop programs, the company has paid extra attention to its mobile apps - adding several new apps for iOS and introducing Creative Cloud to Android for the first time.
First up, iOS. Adobe already has a comprehensive list of image-focused apps for Apple's operating system, so has focused on video production for 2015. Premere CC, Premiere Clip and Hue are all expected to arrive this week, with each one giving creatives a new way to edit, create or prepare video on the move. We're particularly excited for Hue, which uses the camera on your smartphone or tablet to measure the colour composition of a particular image or view to create a colour palette. These can be saved and then applied to video clips in Premiere Pro CC for colour grading.
As ever, Creative Cloud subscribers will find all their cloud documents available on the apps, which then update in real time and let you access them on the desktop without having to manually sync files. This is true of the new apps, and the existing catalogue of CC mobile apps, including Photoshop CC, Photoshop Sketch, Photoshop Mix, Comp CC, Brish CC, Shape CC and Color CC.
That's good news if you're already using iOS, but now Google's Android platform is finally getting some attention too. Photoshop Mix, Colour, Shape and Brush are all getting Android editions in June. Although we have yet to see any of the Android apps in action, we were told they would have an identical feature set to the iOS versions and would work with Creative Cloud in exactly the same way. Once Adobe starts releasing select apps on Android, we're hoping it won't be long until the rest of the mobile Creative Cloud library makes its way across too.
Both the iOS and Android apps are subject to approvals processes on their respective app stores, but Adobe is hoping they should be available alongside the 2015 Creative Cloud update, which goes live this week.
