Minecon London: how to get tickets for the Minecraft convention
Mojang has announced the 2015 Minecraft convention will be held in London this July - but tickets for the two-day event are likely to sell out rapidly, if recent history is anything to go by. Minecon 2015 will be held at the ExCeL exhibition centre on 4 & 5 July, with tickets set to go on sale later this month.
There will be 10,000 tickets available over the two days, but if you think that sounds like plenty, think again. 7,500 people attended the Minecon convention in Orlando Florida in June 2013. The first batch of 2,500 tickets sold out within three seconds of going on sale online, according to Mojang’s chief operating officer, Vu Bui.
There wasn't a Minecon in 2014, which coupled with fans' eagerness to know about the game's future now it's in the hands of Microsoft, is likely to further fuel demand for this summer's event.
Mojang says tickets will go on sale on an unspecified date within the next fortnight. "You’ll head to minecon.mojang.com to purchase them, but they will go fast!" according to a post on the Mojang website . "To accommodate different people’s schedules, they will be released in two batches on the same day, different times, 5,000 tickets in each batch."
Tickets for the 2013 Minecon in Florida went on sale for $150 each, so you can probably expect to pay a three-figure sum for this year's conference.
If you miss out on the tickets, you may still be able to get into the show as a volunteer. The company says it will start taking volunteer submissions next week, so if you're keen to get in and are prepared to put in a bit of work to do so, this may be the best way to get hold of a ticket.
The organisers say Minecon 2015 will include " panels, contests, tournaments, events and a soon-to-be-announced show-of-some-sort for our Saturday night bash". Attendees of previous conventions have also received an exclusive in-game cape for their character.
