Photoshop Vs. Indesign: Which is a benefit Adobe Creative cloud?
Differences between Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign — PUN:CHAT
All graphic software by Adobe is great designing and editing tools and each is programmed to serve a particular task and purpose. Knowing when to use which software can make your work a notch easier.
Adobe Photoshop
Overview:
“Please photoshop this image,” has become a day-to-day phrase, so much that we are ignorant that photoshop isn’t a verb; it’s a software! Adobe Photoshop is a raster-based or a pixel-based software used to create, edit, manipulate and raster images. It has a set of advanced editing tools that lets you apply image filters, remove backgrounds and blemishes, check colour balance, correct exposure, merge images, create compositions, and so on. Layers in photoshop hold multiple objects at a time.
When to use:
· Photo retouching and enhancing photographs with image filters.
· Create renderings, photomontages, axonometric views.
· Render plans and sections, presentation boards.
· Product mock-ups.
· Web Design and UI Design.
· Motion Graphics, GIFs, Simpler animations.
· Edit 3-D content.
When cannot be used:
· When graphics need to be scaled up or down.
· Print-ready and vector graphics.
· Multi-page brochures or newsletters.
· Company logo, posters and brand development.
Adobe Illustrator
Overview:
When your goal is to create pixel perfect designs that can be scaled indefinitely, you can use Adobe Illustrator. It uses math and algorithms that draws shapes using points, lines and curves. Vector graphics generated by Illustrator do not pixelate when scaled and stay sharp and concise just as created. It permits panel and multiple artboards editing simultaneously.
When to use:
· Designing logos and branding solutions.
· Create digital and vector illustrations.
· Customising icons and infographics.
· Type setting for printable documents and campaigns.
· Scalable artwork.
· Single page designs.
When cannot be used.:
· Since filters are limited, it is not an effective photo editing tool.
· Creating multi-page documents gets tedious.
· Since designs created look largely flat, it must not be used when creating photo realistic renders.
Adobe Indesign
Overview:
This is the most used software for composing and designing layout for multi-page documents, both for digital and print media. This text-based software provides an effective control over typography, page setup and orientation to create print-ready layouts. Grids and guides assist in positioning elements to create well-composed sheets. Indesign also allows you to publish your document online and share it with a single click. It creates automated master and multi-page layouts.
When to use:
· Designs with a lot of text.
· Text-wrapping.
· Combine elements from Illustrator and Photoshop.
· Digital publications, e-books, newsletters.
· Reports and Portfolios.
· Catalogues, Pamphlets, Brochures.
When cannot be used:
· When designs need to be manipulated largely.
· Icons, logos and digital artwork.
· Infographics.
Editing Files with Photoshop, InDesign & More
When creating files for online printing, you can edit and manipulate them using various elements, such as panels, bars and windows. Any arrangement of these elements is called a workspace. While you’ve probably heard of workspaces like Photoshop and InDesign, there are other useful options that can help you, too.
The workspaces of the different applications in Creative Cloud look similar, allowing you to easily move between them. Understanding what each program is primarily used for will help you understand the difference between the workspaces.
Photoshop Photoshop is designed for editing and creating photos or raster-based art. Photoshop works with pixels, while Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign work with vectors, so when saving a PDF or using Photoshop, you will get a raster-based image for your final product. When the program was developed, it was mainly for photographers, but over time has grown to help all kinds of artists to do many different kinds of work. It’s known to be so easy to use and offer so many features that it’s considered a one-stop shop. However, Photoshop is not the best program for all types of artwork and design. For example, you’ll notice the difference between how a raster-based image looks and a vector-based image looks in Photoshop:
Adobe Illustrator Illustrator works with vectors, or points used to create perfectly smooth lines. This program is for creating and editing vector-based work such as graphics, logos and other design elements. Vector images are scalable to whatever size you need, small or large, but have the same clarity and resolution. Illustrator is not ideal for creating multi-page documents for an online printer and there are drawbacks to using the program this way. For example, you aren’t able to set up master pages in Illustrator as easily as in Adobe InDesign. This is a necessary tool when you’re building documents that use templates. Illustrator also doesn’t allow for automated page numbers. This is another feature InDesign supports, which can be especially useful when dealing with larger documents. The example below shows the InDesign master page view for setting up documents:
Adobe InDesign InDesign is a desktop publishing software application for creating flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers and books. Projects created using InDesign can be shared in both digital and print formats. Graphic designers, artists, publishers and marketing professionals all use InDesign.

The Brush tool , similar to a real paintbrush, allows you to paint on any layer. You'll additionally have a variety of options to pick from, allowing you to tailor it to certain scenarios. Once you've mastered the Brush tool, you'll realize that many other tools, such as the Eraser and the Spot Healing Brush, employ a similar set of options.

The Dodge and Burn tools are used to brighten or darken portions of a picture. These techniques were based on an old-school darkroom technique for platforms to showcase particular regions of a print. Photographers either hold back light to brighten an area of a picture (dodging) or increase exposure to darken sections of an image (exposure) (burning). The brighter or darker an area becomes when you paint over it using the Dodge or Burn tool.

Photoshop or InDesign: which is superior? In short, Photoshop is responsible for picture processing, Illustrator for sketching, and InDesign for producing imagery and text structures.
Is Creative Cloud required to just use InDesign? Once you've determined that InDesign is the right programme for you, the first and only way to get it is through it with a Creative Cloud membership, that you can either pay for monthly or yearly.
Seems to be Adobe Creative Cloud the same like Photoshop? Photoshop is one of Adobe Creative Cloud and may be used in conjunction with these other Creative Cloud programmes such as Adobe Illustrator and Premiere Pro. Photoshop images may be used as video backdrops in Premiere Pro, moveable things in Adobe Animate, or graphic structural components in Illustration.
What applications does Adobe InDesign excel at? InDesign is a personal publishing and layout program that may be used to create books, newspapers, and booklets, as well as physical and digital publications. It's the accepted standard for setting up long-form scrollable documents, but it's not only for that.
